One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.. or so the saying goes. We prefer one person’s (not sexist) junk is another person’s leisure. Yup, that’s right leisure! We’ve been on this Flack Journey for just under a year now and we’re amazed at how many people come to Flack looking for leisure equipment. In winter 2020 post COVID-19 lockdown our highest search item and most successful google search ad is for tents. In the middle of winter, that’s bloody bonkers.
The more we look into it, the more we see that there are so many household leisure items that can be quite expensive and don’t justify the single-use purchase. However, in most locations there simply isn’t an easy way to hire leisure equipment.
We’re seeing users search for scuba kit, kayaks, paddleboards, camping equipment and fishing gear. Firstly there is an opportunity for people to list their “not in use” leisure equipment to make a buck. Secondly, our Flack community could create an environment that enables users to sample new hobbies before investing in new kit and make it easy to actually hire leisure equipment from people nearby.
Picture a classic kiwi beach town over the Christmas holidays. All those baches with kayaks, and paddleboards or even a wee laser yacht. A good community of users in these areas means that no one needs to own all the toys and can just fill their days trying new activities with the fam. How good?
Here’s another old cliché to start a paragraph. “Up a creek without a paddle”. Now, this is an important one and the reason we’re calling it out is because it’s super important to list all the items that make a piece of leisure equipment work. So list a kayak with a paddle, a yacht with a sail, a dinghy with oars, throw in a lifejacket….you get the drift.
Let’s see if we can get it done and create a source of hireable leisure equipment so that new Zealanders and travellers can all enjoy what Godzone has to offer.
