Why hello, we’re Flack!

Introducing New Zealand to peer to peer hiring.

Let us introduce ourselves.

Well, here we are. This is the first of hopefully many posts from Flack. It’s a pretty nifty feeling launching your own business. We aim to use this medium to keep you abreast of our progress, pitfalls and successes of our new peer to peer rental platform.

…Sorry, back to the introductions

We’re Ben, Shanon and Gav, and this is our baby, flack.co.nz. We’re 3 down-to-earth blokes from here in lil-old NZ, giving this startup thing a crack. Flack is a place for people looking to make a bit of extra cash from stuff, be it a kayak, water-blaster, chainsaw etc. that they have lying around. It’s also for those people who would like to rent out the odd thing every so often, and don’t want to pay a fortune at your traditional rental establishments when there might be someone close-by with the item you need.

How it all began

About a year-and-a-half ago now, just after the Summer holidays, our boy Ben had an epiphany. You see, during the break, he’d needed a chainsaw for a quick job around the house. Ben didn’t really know anyone with a chainsaw and so his only option was to go and rent one from any old typical rental place. Now, that meant having to travel a good distance and forking out a premium amount of his hard-earned money to rent. “Why is there not a better way?” — he thought to himself. To cut a long story short, Ben got talking to Gav, Gav got talking to Shanon and together they decided that they could fix this problem. We’d build a platform that allowed people to rent stuff for a more reasonable amount from a location closer nearby. Also, we’d let people, with stuff they don’t really use, make some extra cash by renting it out. And so flack.co.nz was born.

Where are we at?

So we’re still very early on in our journey but we’re moving quickly. We launched the listing journey about a week ago. This enables people to list their items on Flack. And we’re in the final stages of the renting journey and should have it live in the next month or so. We’re pretty stoked with how things have gone so far and want to provide you guys with the best service we can. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with us at info@flack.co.nz
